Greece enforces nationwide traffic measures for Easter Holiday Travel
Authorities in Greece have rolled out enhanced traffic measures ahead of the Easter holiday exodus, aiming to ensure road safety and smooth travel as thousands leave major cities.
The plan, implemented by the Hellenic Police Traffic Division, came into effect today and will remain in place until Sunday, April 19, covering both outbound and return journeys.
Increased Checks Across Key Transport Hubs
Authorities have intensified controls at high-traffic, including:
- Entry and exit points of major urban centers
- National and regional road networks
- Airports, ports, and intercity bus and train stations
- Regions hosting Easter celebrations, especially from Holy Wednesday to Holy Saturday
The scope is to reduce congestion and prevent accidents during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
Focus on High-Risk Violations
Police will conduct targeted inspections to curb dangerous driving behaviors linked to serious and fatal accidents, including:
- Driving under the influence of alcohol
- Speeding
- Mobile phone use while driving
- Not using seat belts and helmets
- Illegal overtaking
- Transporting children without proper safety seats
- Driving without a license or by minors
- Use of the emergency lane (hard shoulder)
- Checks will be carried out nationwide.
