Greece opens applications for personal assistants for people with disabilities
The online platform for new applications to Greece's Personal Assistant for People with Disabilities programme opens Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
The programme provides personalised support based on the needs and preferences of each person with a disability, aiming to strengthen autonomy, independence and freedom of choice.
Beneficiaries can choose their own personal assistant and organise support for daily and personal care, transportation, employment, education, access to services and participation in social life.
Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Domna Michailidou said the government had created and tested the programme, incorporating feedback from both beneficiaries and assistants before making it a permanent nationwide institution.
“New applications across Greece open on Wednesday,” Michailidou said, adding that the programme would give people with disabilities greater autonomy and more choices in organising their lives.
Who can apply
The programme is open to people with physical, intellectual, developmental, sensory or mental disabilities who meet the eligibility requirements.
Applicants must generally:
-Be aged 16 to 67, with provision for applications up to age 75 in certain cases.
-Have a primary disability rate of at least 67% or be classified as having total disability.
-Be permanent and legal residents of Greece.
-Be tax residents of Greece.
-Meet the applicable income criteria.
The basic annual household income threshold is €35,000.
The threshold increases by €17,500 for each additional adult household member, or for the first minor member of a single-adult household. It increases by a further €8,750 for each additional minor household member.
