Drivers will be required to carry standardized first aid kits in their vehicles starting June 18, under new regulations introduced by Greece’s Deputy Minister of Transport, Konstantinos Kiranakis.

The updated rules establish clear safety standards for first aid kits, including a fixed list of essential medical supplies that must be present in every vehicle.

16 Mandatory Items for Vehicle First Aid Kits
Under the new regulation, every car must be equipped with a first aid kit containing the following items:

  • Isothermal rescue blanket
  • Adhesive fixation tape
  • Assorted adhesive bandages
  • Small sterile dressing
  • Medium sterile dressing
  • Large sterile dressing
  • Burn dressing or sterile gauze
  • Wound compresses
  • Narrow elastic bandage
  • Wide elastic bandage
  • Triangular bandage
  • First aid scissors
  • Disposable gloves
  • Wet cleansing wipes
  • Medical face mask
  • First aid instruction guide

Key Compliance Rules for Drivers
Authorities have also outlined strict usage and maintenance requirements:

  • The kit must be stored in an easily accessible location inside the vehicle
  • It must not be locked and should contain only medical supplies
  • All items must be within their expiration dates
  • Products must carry CE certification, ensuring compliance with EU safety standards
  • Kits should be regularly updated, especially during summer months, and replaced at least every two years

€30 Fine for Non-Compliance
Drivers who fail to comply with the new rules will face a €30 fine, reinforcing the government’s effort to improve road safety and emergency preparedness.

The move is part of a broader initiative to ensure that all drivers are equipped to handle minor medical emergencies effectively, aligning national regulations with European safety standards.
