Mitsotakis nominates Nikitas Kaklamanis for Parliament Speaker

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has proposed Nikitas Kaklamanis as the candidate for Parliament Speaker.
Government Spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis announced the nomination. Mitsotakis and Kaklamanis met at the Prime Minister’s residence on the eve of the announcement.
Meanwhile, Kostas Tasulas, previously proposed by Mitsotakis as a presidential candidate, announced his resignation from his roles as MP and Parliament Speaker today.
Following Tasulas' resignation, the election for the new Parliament Speaker will be held next Wednesday through an open vote by Members of Parliament.
Who is Nikitas Kaklamanis?
Nikitas Kaklamanis was born in 1946 on the island of Andros. He graduated from the Medical School of the University of Athens in 1971, specializing in Radiotherapy and Oncology. In 1989, he became an associate professor at the University of Athens Medical School.
Kaklamanis was first elected as an MP with the New Democracy Party in 1990, taking responsibility for the party’s healthcare policies. He served as Minister of Health and Social Solidarity in 2004.
In 2006, Kaklamanis was elected Mayor of Athens, a position he held until 2010. He later returned to active politics, taking on various parliamentary roles.
