A 4.3-magnitude earthquake shook the island of Crete on Friday afternoon, with the epicenter located 8 kilometers southwest of Arkalochori in the Heraklion region, at a depth of 13 kilometers, according to the National Observatory of Athens.
The tremor was felt in surrounding areas, including the city of Iraklio, but no injuries or damage have been reported.
Experts say the quake is an aftershock of the 6.0-magnitude earthquake that struck the same area in September 2021.
Efthymios Lekkas, head of the Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization, and Athanasios Ganas of the Institute of Geodynamics both described it as a weak event that does not cause concern.
