Measures against water crisis: Water prices set to rise!

Greek Minister of Environment and Energy, Theodoros Skilakakis, announced in a press briefing that the reduction in water resources due to the climate crisis is prompting the government to take action.
Skilakakis pointed out that the most severe water shortages are being experienced in the southern Aegean, the Peloponnese, parts of Crete, and the capital city of Athens, which relies on water resources from Central Greece.
As part of the new measures, Skilakakis revealed that the jurisdiction of the Athens Water and Sewerage Company (EYDAP), responsible for the Attica region including Athens, will be expanded. A similar expansion will apply to the Thessaloniki Water Supply and Sewerage Company (EYDATH).
He further stated that water prices will be increased proportionally to the amount of water consumed, with prices rising in tiers depending on usage.
To combat the water shortage comprehensively, Skilakakis also mentioned that projects such as desalination and cistern systems are being considered as part of the solution.
