Food prices in Greece see modest annual rise, sweets top the list

According to data from the Consumer Retail Research Institute, supermarket product prices in Greece rose by 1.59% in March compared to the same month last year. On a monthly basis, however, prices showed a slight decline of 0.19% from February.
SWEETS AND SEAFOOD LEAD PRICE INCREASES
Among the product categories, biscuits, chocolate, and confectionery saw the steepest annual rise at 12.2%. Fresh fish and seafood followed with a 5.99% increase, while fresh meat prices climbed by 5.67%.
In contrast, significant price drops were observed in non-food items. Detergents and cleaning products recorded a 5.66% decrease, while stationery, cosmetics, and personal hygiene items fell by 1.99%.
INFLATION TRENDS IN GREECE AND THE EUROZONE
According to Eurostat, the European Union’s statistical office, Greece's inflation rate in March edged up slightly to 3.1%, compared to 3.0% in February. Meanwhile, annual inflation across the eurozone dropped from 2.3% to 2.2%. Among eurozone sectors, services recorded the highest inflation rate at 3.4%, followed by food products at 2.9%.
