Konstantopoulou pours cold water on Kasselakis’ ‘agreement’ claims

Course of Freedom party leader Zoe Konstantopoulou said that a tactical agreement between her party and Stefanos Kasselakis’ Movement for Democracy on the Tempe rail disaster case did not happen as described by the latter.
Both Kasselakis and Konstantopoulou agree that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and probably other government officials, should face charges over the disaster itself and its handling, and that the parliament’s investigative committee should not limit itself to considering an indictment over then-transport minister Kostas Karamanlis.
Speaking at his party’s founding congress Saturday, Kasselakis had said that “after extensive talks with Konstantopoulou, we came to an agreement and she had adopted our charges. We will work together and we will do together what the victims’ families demand, we will make all politicians and the mastermind, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, face the investigative commission so that they can be taken to court.”
“What was said by Stefanos Kasselakis, and the way he put it, is not accurate,” Konstantopoulou said in an interview with TV channel Mega Sunday. “If what he says is accurate, that his MPs will support an (indictment) proposal against Mr. Mitsotakis (and) Mr Karamanlis, that will not exempt persons having committed indictable offenses, of course we will promote it and we will seek the support of other MPs,” she added.
Konstantopoulou has long called for Mitsotakis to face prosecution and did not simply adopt Kasselakis’ position. She is actively involved as counsel for some of the victim’s families and her party has been the main beneficiary in terms of popular support in recent opinion polls, having risen to second place in intended votes behind the ruling New Democracy.
