Gun and ammunition discovered during prison raid

A firearm and ammunition believed to be connected to an attempted prison escape have been discovered during a police operation at the maximum-security Korydallos Prison in Athens.
The raid, which took place on Saturday, was launched following intelligence reports that a weapon was hidden inside Wing F of the facility and was intended for use in a planned breakout.
Sources suggest the escape was being organized by a group of Turkish inmates.
During the operation, officers from the anti-extortion division searched a communal cell area. Inside an electric appliance, they uncovered a pistol, a magazine loaded with 15 rounds, and a makeshift paper package containing sedative medication concealed within a cigarette pack.
As part of the ongoing investigation, 20 inmates have been arrested on various charges, including violations of weapons and narcotics laws, breaches of public order legislation, and incitement-related offenses.
The seized firearm will be sent to the directorate of criminal investigations for forensic analysis. A case file is being compiled and will be submitted to the appropriate judicial authorities.
