vDisciplinary action has been taken against members of the Hellenic Navy who shouted anti-Turkey slogans during Greece’s Independence Day parade held in Athens on March 25, according to local media reports.

An administrative investigation into the incident has concluded, resulting in a 20-day detention penalty for some of the responsible officers. Other cadets involved received lighter disciplinary sanctions based on their level of involvement.

The incident drew swift criticism from Ankara. Sources from the Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned the slogans as "unacceptable" and "brazen," stating that such actions are intended to undermine improving Turkish-Greek relations. Türkiye also formally requested an explanation from Greek authorities.

Greece’s main opposition party, SYRIZA, also denounced the slogans, calling them inappropriate and urging a thorough investigation.

The event, meant to commemorate Greece’s struggle for independence, was marred by the incident, which risked casting a shadow over the recent efforts by both nations to improve diplomatic and cultural ties.
