Greece's first Belharra-class frigate presented in France
The frigate was launched at the shipyard in Lorient, France. The event, which was broadcast live on the Youtube page of the French Naval Group, was attended by French Defence Minister Sebastien Lecornu and Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias.
Starting his speech in French, Dendias expressed his pleasure to be in the city of Lorient, where the Kimon was launched.
"This is a great honour for me and an extraordinary moment for Greece. This is an important step in the defence and security cooperation between the Hellenic Republic and the French Republic."
French Defence Minister Lecornu stated that the fact that France and Greece share the same analysis of the risks to the Mediterranean brings the two countries closer to each other.
The French Minister stated that the Mediterranean is a region of rearmament.
FRIGATE KIMON'S FEATURES
Designed to meet modern maritime requirements by combining various battlefield capabilities, the frigate features Thales Sea Fire radar, a fully digital, multifunctional radar equipped with active antenna and fixed panels.
The frigate will be able to accommodate helicopters and VTOL unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The frigate's armament consists of 32 Aster missiles, 8 Exocet MM40 B3C missiles, MU 90 torpedoes, 76 millimetre cannon, CANTO as a torpedo countermeasure and 4 torpedo tubes.
