Greece is entering a dangerous three-day heatwave starting Wednesday, with temperatures expected to peak on Friday, reaching up to 42°C in parts of the mainland, according to forecasts from the National Meteorological Service (EMY) and leading meteorologists.

Greece is entering a dangerous three-day heatwave starting Wednesday, with temperatures expected to peak on Friday, reaching up to 42°C in parts of the mainland, according to forecasts from the National Meteorological Service (EMY) and leading meteorologists.

The heatwave, driven by hot air masses from North Africa, is expected to affect central and southern mainland Greece most severely, with Attica, Thessaly, Larissa, and Boeotia among the hardest-hit regions.

Seven Regions on High Alert:

Meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafyllias warned of a “devil’s week,” highlighting a very high fire risk, especially in:

Thessaly

Kilkis

Serres

Peloponnese

Boeotia

Aetolia-Acarnania

Attica

Following the heatwave, strong northerly winds over the weekend could further increase wildfire dangers.

Peak of the heatwave. Some mountain regions may experience brief storms. Winds pick up in the Aegean.

Saturday (June 28):
Clear but windy. Temperatures drop by 2–3°C but fire danger remains high due to strong winds (6–7 Beaufort).

Authorities urge citizens to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and report any signs of wildfire immediately.
