GPO poll shows strong ND lead, broad support for farmers and potential new party
Greece’s ruling New Democracy (ND) party maintains a comfortable double-digit lead over its rivals, according to a new GPO poll published by Parapolitika, amid ongoing farmers’ protests and shifting dynamics in the opposition.
The survey shows ND leading PASOK by 12.3 percentage points in voter intention, at 23.5% versus 11.2%. When results are extrapolated based on valid responses, ND’s lead widens to 15.2 points, with the party polling at 28.9% compared with PASOK’s 13.7%.
Public support for protesting farmers is overwhelming, with 82.9% of respondents backing their demands ahead of a scheduled meeting between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and farmers’ representatives.
The poll also points to notable interest in a potential new political party led by Maria Karystianou, a prominent parent of a victim of the 2023 Tempi rail disaster. About 22.8% of respondents said they would be likely or possibly willing to vote for such a party, a development that could further weaken opposition forces, particularly leftist SYRIZA.
Under the extrapolated results, Greek Solution polls at 11.8%, Plefsi Eleftherias at 11.1%, and the Communist Party at 9.2%. SYRIZA falls to 5%, while all other parties remain below the 3% parliamentary threshold.
