Foreign Minister Gerapetritis evaluates Türkiye and Greece's candidacies in OSCE

Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis emphasized the symbolic significance of Türkiye and Greece jointly proposing their respective candidacies for key positions within the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
Speaking ahead of the 31st OSCE Ministerial Council Meeting in Valletta, Malta, Gerapetritis highlighted the importance of the organization amidst ongoing regional conflicts. He noted that Türkiye's candidacy for OSCE Secretary General and Greece's candidacy for the Director of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) reflect a historic collaboration aimed at promoting peace and security in Europe.
"In May 2024, my Turkish counterpart and I jointly proposed candidates for two of the OSCE's four key positions. This action carries significant symbolic weight, showcasing the potential for historically burdened nations to act as a driving force for cooperation and peace in Europe," Gerapetritis stated.
If Greece secures the ODIHR leadership, it aims to contribute to fair elections, democratic institution-building, human rights, minority protection, and reducing inequalities.
The joint proposal endorses Feridun Sinirlioğlu for OSCE Secretary General and Mania Telalian for ODIHR Director.
