FM Gerapetritis at Berlin Process meeting: European path of W. Balkans crucial, in midst of two wars
Greek Foreign Affairs Minister George Gerapetritis underlined the importance of the European path of Western Balkans, particularly in the midst of two wars, at the summit held at the Germany chancellery in the context of the Berlin Process on the Western Balkans earlier on Monday.
"In the midst of two wars threatening our region and global security, the European process of the Western Balkans is signicant, in order to establish peace and prosperity in our region, avoid nationalisms, set a path that will be compatible with Europe," Gerapetritis said.
Greece has already clarified its stance, which he said "was prescribed 20 years ago through the Thessaloniki Agenda in 2003, when Greece became a pioneer in the accession of Western Balkans in the European family." The accession, he underlined, must take place "with full respect to the European acquis, full respect to international law, full respect to the principles of democracy and the rule of law." The process will be accelerated, to establish peace and prosperity in the region during difficult times.
Following the Berlin Process meeting, Gerapetritis will travel to Luxembourg for Monday's EU Council of Foreign Affairs on Russian agression against the Ukraine and the Middle East situation.
