Greece reiterates support for Serbia’s EU membership bid
Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis reaffirmed Athens’ support for Serbia’s European Union membership bid during talks with Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric in Belgrade.
Speaking at a joint press conference, Gerapetritis said Serbia’s accession would contribute to regional stability and prosperity, adding that EU enlargement should remain a strategic priority.
“Greece supports Serbia's EU accession process for the sake of stability and prosperity,” he said.
The Greek minister also reiterated support for the EU-facilitated Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue and discussed developments in the Middle East with his Serbian counterpart.
Strong economic ties
Djuric thanked Greece for its continued backing of Serbia’s EU aspirations and highlighted growing economic cooperation between the two countries.
He said bilateral trade exceeded €2.2 billion ($2.55 billion) over the past 12 months and noted that Greece remains a leading destination for Serbian tourists.
Djuric also reaffirmed Serbia’s commitment to the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue, describing relations with Greece as a “special friendship.”
Separately, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said cooperation between the two countries would continue to deepen following his meeting with Gerapetritis.
