Gerapetritis: Greece stands firm on international law and border integrity
Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis reaffirmed on Sunday that Greece will continue to uphold the principles of international law and the inviolability of borders, stressing that short-term political gains must not come at the expense of global security architecture.
Speaking to the newspaper Apogevmatini, Gerapetritis welcomed the prospect of further diplomatic initiatives, including a potential meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia, as well as U.S. support for Ukraine’s security guarantees.
“Greece, as a matter of principle, will insist on its basic position for the universal application of international law and the inviolability of the borders of every state,” he underlined.
The minister cautioned against transactional approaches in foreign policy, warning that abandoning international law today would weaken its use as a tool for resolving future disputes, particularly on sensitive national issues.
“Foreign policy requires knowledge and deliberation, not shallowness and opportunism,” Gerapetritis concluded.
