Inspectors find 118 buildings burnt beyond repair by wildfires, so far
Inspections of fire-damaged buildings in parts of western Attica ravaged by the recent wildfire have so far found 84 to be completely destroyed and another 67 to have suffered reversible damage, authorities said Thursday.
Overall, infrastructure ministry inspectors have examined 325 buildings in wildfire-battered areas including western Attica, Crete, Viotia, Achaia and Argolida in the Peloponnese, and Fokida in central Greece.
A total 118 – mostly in western Attica – were condemned for demolition, 119 were found to be damaged but repairable, and 88 were deemed suitable for habitation.
In Crete’s Rethymno area, where two firefighters died battling wildfires last week, 55 buildings were inspected and 19 condemned, while another 12 were deemed repairable.
Another seven buildings were condemned in Viotia, where the fire that spread to western Attica started last Friday, six in Fokida and two in Argolida.
