Farmers across Greece have launched extensive demonstrations, closing national roads, side streets, and some border checkpoints, as they press the government to address their demands. Despite disruptions, some groups have allowed holiday travelers to pass freely through tolls.

While most farmers are participating, 14 roadblocks and four associations—from Meriç (Evros) to Rhodes—have expressed willingness to enter dialogue with the government, highlighting a desire for constructive talks. Some other roadblocks are observing the discussions without formally joining, creating debate over representation.

In areas like Afidnes, farmers have lifted toll barriers, allowing smooth passage for motorists. Leaflets explaining their concerns have been shared with travelers, many of whom have expressed support.

The government has welcomed the willingness of many farmer groups to negotiate and urged remaining groups to focus on dialogue. Officials note that most farmers’ and livestock breeders’ requests are being addressed, with payments proceeding on schedule.

A nationwide farmers’ meeting is expected after New Year’s, likely in Malgara, to decide the next steps. Farmers emphasize their readiness to stay at the roadblocks until meaningful dialogue conditions are established and encourage wider participation across the agricultural sector.
