Eastern Macedonia & Thrace Region participates in Mediterranean Investment Dialogue in Athens
The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (EMTH) took part in the anniversary international symposium of the ANIMA Investment Network, held in Athens under the title “Mediterranean 2036: Future-Proofing Economic Prosperity.”
The event was co-organized by Enterprise Greece and ANIMA Investment Network, marking 20 years since the establishment of the Mediterranean cooperation platform. It brought together representatives from investment agencies, international organizations, clusters, and policy experts from 17 countries across the Mediterranean region.
Focus on Investment, Connectivity, and Sustainable Growth
The symposium highlighted the need for the Mediterranean region to move from discussing challenges to implementing concrete, bankable projects. Key topics included resilient infrastructure, stronger supply chains, innovation ecosystems, and new cooperation mechanisms between public institutions and private investors.
For Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, particular emphasis was placed on improving connectivity, strengthening the investment climate, and advancing mature development projects in sectors such as agrifood, tourism, energy, innovation, and cross-border cooperation.
Representation of the Region
The Region of EMTH was represented by Odysseas Vourvoukelis, who conveyed the region’s strategic interest in expanding international partnerships and promoting investment opportunities.
According to officials, the participation aligns with the broader strategy of Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis, focusing on outward-looking development policies and international networking.
Strengthening Mediterranean Cooperation
Discussions in Athens confirmed growing interest in further collaboration with EMTH, including the possibility of participating in future ANIMA Network meetings, potentially hosted in Cyprus.
Officials emphasized that such platforms provide not only visibility but also practical tools for regional development, knowledge exchange, and investment attraction.
Strategic Role of EMTH in the Mediterranean
The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace highlighted its ambition to play a more active role in Mediterranean cooperation networks, leveraging its geographic position, cross-border dynamics, and economic potential.
Participation in the symposium is seen as part of a broader effort to position the region as a competitive investment destination within the evolving Mediterranean economic landscape.
