Celebrating History Through Children’s Art
Hosted by Turkish Ambassador to Athens Çağatay Erciyes, the exhibition featured drawings created by children under the theme “Do Not Fear! The Spirit of Youth is Here!” — a reference to the opening words of the anthem.

The event aimed to both celebrate the historic adoption of the anthem on March 12, 1921, and honor its author, Mehmet Akif Ersoy.

Tribute to a National Poet
In his remarks, Ambassador Erciyes highlighted the significance of the anthem and its enduring message of patriotism. He reminded attendees that Mehmet Akif Ersoy wrote the anthem out of deep love for his country and famously refused any financial reward, dedicating the work to the nation.

Describing Ersoy as “a patriot who felt the struggles of his people and became a source of hope for the Turkish nation,” Erciyes emphasized the importance of passing these values on to younger generations.

Youth Participation Takes Center Stage
One of the highlights of the event was a speech by 12-year-old participant Duru Hançer, who shared insights into the meaning of the anthem and the symbolism of the Turkish flag. During her presentation, an animation illustrating the story behind the anthem was projected for attendees.

Children who contributed artwork to the exhibition were presented with special gifts prepared by the embassy, followed by a reception for families and guests.

Strengthening Cultural Identity Abroad
The exhibition underscored the role of cultural diplomacy in preserving national identity among diaspora communities. By engaging children through art and storytelling, the event fostered both historical awareness and a sense of belonging.
