Bakoyannis predicts Tsipras’ return with leader-centered new party
New Democracy MP and former minister Dora Bakoyannis said she is convinced that former prime minister Alexis Tsipras will return to frontline politics by forming a new, heavily leader-driven party.
Speaking to Skai, Bakoyannis argued that “the next Tsipras party will be the most leader-centered party ever in Greece,” adding that internal dissent would have limited space.
Referring to Tsipras’s new book Ithaki, released on Monday, she said she had read excerpts and noted that his accounts of his government’s 2015–2019 collaborators differ markedly from her own recollection of that turbulent period.
Bakoyannis described those years as “extremely difficult,” citing the real risk of Greece exiting the euro and potentially the European Union, and said her team worked to avert “the worst outcomes” as the country faced “dark hours.”
