Tsipras unveils manifesto, calls for left unity

Former Greek prime minister Alexis Tsipras on Friday presented a political manifesto advocating closer cooperation among left-wing forces, signaling the direction of a potential new party.

In a social media post, Tsipras said the document—prepared by his policy institute—calls for the convergence of Social Democrats, the radical Left and Greens to form a viable governing alternative.

Tsipras, who led SYRIZA to power in 2015 during the financial crisis, said the initiative aims to counter neoliberal and far-right dominance and respond to public demand for a stronger welfare state.

He has indicated plans to launch a new party ahead of the 2027 elections, with recent polling suggesting potential support in the low double digits.

The manifesto argues that successive crises over the past 15 years have reshaped public expectations, and calls for a unified progressive front to address inequality, sustainability and institutional reform.
