Annual conference of the Hellenic Union of Municipalities begins in Rhodes
The Hellenic Union of Municipalities (ΚΕΔΕ) has commenced its annual three-day conference on the island of Rhodes, with opening remarks delivered on November 7. Greece’s President, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, attended as the guest of honor, joined by ministers, party leaders, and municipal representatives, including key officials from Western Thrace: Komotini Mayor Yannis Garanis, Deputy Mayor Mesut Mehmet, and other mayors from the region.
Held under President Sakellaropoulou’s patronage, the conference centers on the theme: “Rebooting Strong Municipalities, Standing by Citizens Every Day.” It seeks to address challenges and solutions for strengthening local governance across Greece.
The conference will continue today, November 8, with sessions led by government ministers and local governance officials, focusing on:
Legal and Multi-level Governance
Municipal Economy and Co-financed Programs
Social Policy, Family, Health, Equality, and Social Cohesion
Environment, Energy, Waste, Water Management, and Urban Planning
Digital Transformation and AI, with tools for island and mountainous municipalities
Disaster Preparedness and Climate Crisis Management
The conference is set to conclude on November 9 with discussions on policy recommendations and decisions to be adopted by local administrations.
