Androulakis demands investigation into wiretapping scandal

In a petition to Arios Pagos (Supreme Court), PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis demanded an investigation into the relationship between the spy programme used in the wiretapping scandal and the EYP.

Nikos Androulakis, leader of the opposition Panhellenic Socialist Movement Party (PASOK), in a petition to the Supreme Court of Greece (Arios Pagos), asked for an investigation into the relationship between the Greek Intelligence Organisation (EYP) and the spy programme called "predator" used in the "wiretapping scandal" in which the phones of politicians and journalists in Greece were monitored.

In his statement, Andrulakis stated that he applied to the Supreme Court and requested a comparison of the targets of the "predator" spyware programme with the targets tracked by the EYP.

"Let the common centre where the wiretaps were carried out finally come to light," Androulakis said.

Emphasising that this comparison should be made and the Greek Parliament and the public should be informed if it is really desired to shed light on the scandal, Androulakis said

"It is inconceivable that in a European country there is a shadowy behind-the-scenes organisation that threatens people representing independent institutions."

The wiretapping scandal in Greece came to the fore after the spyware programme "predator" was detected on the mobile phone of Greek journalist Thanasis Koukakis in 2022.

According to the news in the Greek press, the phones of many politicians, bureaucrats, journalists and business people, including former Prime Minister Andonis Samaras, Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, Chief of General Staff Konstandinos Floros, were allegedly "tapped".
