Andreas Loverdos joins New Democracy after meeting with Mitsotakis

Former PASOK minister Andreas Loverdos has officially joined New Democracy (ND) following a meeting on Monday with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Maximos Mansion.
Loverdos will run as an ND candidate in the next national elections, though his electoral district has yet to be announced. He confirmed he will not be running in Athens' Northern Sector, where he had previously stood as a candidate.
Speaking earlier on SKAI Radio, Loverdos revealed that the decision was mutual and had been finalized days ago. "It's just a matter of time before the official announcement," he said.
In a joint statement following the meeting, Mitsotakis welcomed Loverdos and members of his party "Democrats" into New Democracy.
“We welcome Professor Andreas Loverdos and the Democrats to New Democracy. He is a well-known figure with a long political career. Our party has always kept its doors open to those who believe in a strong, modern, democratic, and European Greece,” said Mitsotakis.
He added: “Far from labels and dogmas, we are joining forces to improve citizens’ lives and secure a better future for the country, especially in these uncertain international times that demand unity, cooperation, and political stability.”
Loverdos responded briefly, saying:
“With Kyriakos Mitsotakis and New Democracy — patriotically, reform-minded, and liberally.”
