The aircraft and helicopter have successfully landed at Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport.

Greece is currently struggling with intense wildfires that have spread smoke as far as the capital, Athens, and claimed at least one life.

Türkiye's Offer of Assistance

In a gesture of good neighborly relations, Türkiye offered its assistance to Greece in combating the fires, which began near Varnava, close to Athens, and have spread to various parts of Attica due to strong winds.

According to diplomatic sources, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan conveyed Türkiye's readiness to assist Greece during this crisis. The absence of major fires in Türkiye at present allowed for this offer of support to be extended.

Country on "Red Alert"

The wildfires in the Varnava region had already forced the evacuation of nine villages and two hospitals. The Greek Ministry of Health announced that medical centers in Nea Makri and Kapandritios, as well as certain hospitals in Athens, were on high alert due to the increased healthcare demands caused by the fires.

Meteorologists and government officials have warned citizens of the rising risk of wildfires until Thursday due to weather conditions, with Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Vassilis Kikilias stating that half of the country is on "red alert."
