Greece is set to launch a digital accident map to track traffic incidents in real time, aiming to address the country’s high road fatality rate.

According to Kathimerini Developed by the Ministry of Digital Governance in collaboration with the Attica Region and Traffic Police, the platform will be integrated into maps.gov.gr by March. It will use open data to pinpoint accident locations and patterns, helping authorities address road safety hazards such as poor signage and infrastructure defects.

Initially, the system will feature police-recorded accidents, with future access extended to insurance companies, researchers and citizens. Experts believe the platform will provide crucial insights for policy makers. The government’s broader strategy also includes installing traffic cameras in high-risk areas.

The platform will be presented to Attica’s mayors soon, marking a significant step in Greece’s ongoing efforts to curb road accidents.
