Mümin Gençoğlu to be commemorated in Bursa

Mümin Gençoğlu, a politician, businessman and founder of Balgöç Headquarters, who devoted his life to immigration problems, will be commemorated in Bursa on the 30th anniversary of his death.
In the statement made by the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities, it was stated that the commemoration program to be held on Tuesday, February 7 for Mümin Gençoğlu will be held at Bursa-Osmangazi Merinos Atatürk Congress and Culture Center.
It was noted that in the commemoration program to be organized by YTB under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye, the book written for Gençoğlu will also be introduced.
WHO IS MÜMİN GENÇOĞLU?
He was born in Yiğitler village of Kardzhali province of Bulgaria. He graduated from Kırcaali High School in 1948. In 1951, he migrated from Bulgaria to Türkiye with his family and settled in Bursa.
Between 1951 and 1955, he worked in various positions at Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry and started his commercial life in Bursa in 1959.
He was mostly involved in the purchase and export of tobacco, and was rewarded as the largest exporter in Türkiye in 1970 - 1971 - 1972.
He was among the tax holders of Türkiye in 1983-1986 and was rewarded as a tax holder in Bursa.
He laid the company of today's Gençoğlu Holding, which has investments in energy, tourism, finance, insurance, aviation and media, especially in the tobacco, textile, food and real estate sectors.
He served as a member of the Assembly for 24 years in the Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as a member of the board of directors for 20 years, as the deputy chairman of the chamber for 3 years and as the chairman of the chamber assembly for 3 years. Between 1973 and 1978, he was the chairman of Bursaspor Club, which he made great efforts in its establishment and structuring.
In 1985, he founded the Balkan Immigrants Culture and Solidarity Association, known as “Bal-Göç” and headquartered in Bursa.
He entered politics in 1991 and was elected as Bursa Deputy of the Motherland Party in the general elections that year.
He passed away at the age of 60 as a result of a traffic accident on the Sivrihisar, Eskişehir highway on the way to the funeral of Adnan Kahveci, on February 7, 1993.
He was known as "Mumin Ağa" among the public and in the press in Türkiye, due to his dedication to immigrant problems and his efforts in this regard.
The death of former minister of state and close friend Adnan Kahveci, two days apart, created suspicions that the two were victims of an assassination attempt.
He was buried in Emir Sultan Cemetery in Bursa.
