Israeli attacks intensify across occupied West Bank and southern Lebanon
The official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that the planned site would bring the number of settlement locations in the area to six. The development comes amid an increase in attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians and their property across the occupied West Bank.
The United Nations considers Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories illegal under international law.
Doctor injured in West Bank attack
A Palestinian doctor was injured Sunday after being attacked by Israeli settlers in the Janata area east of Bethlehem, according to Palestinian officials.
The Jerusalem Governorate said about 10 settlers attacked Dr. Majid Aliyan Dweikat, beating him with stones and sticks, breaking his hand and damaging his vehicle.
WAFA also reported attacks on Palestinian vehicles along the Ramallah-Nablus road.
In the village of Beit Imrin, west of Nablus, settlers reportedly attacked a Palestinian home and detained several people. Reports said injuries were recorded in the area and that Israeli forces prevented ambulances from reaching the scene.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society said its ambulance crews were also obstructed while attempting to operate in Beit Imrin.
Pope urges end to West Bank violence
Pope Leo XIV renewed his call Sunday for an end to violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and urged the international community to advance efforts toward a two-state solution.
Speaking after the weekly Angelus prayer, the pope called for an end to repeated acts of violence against the Palestinian population and appealed for progress toward what he described as a just and lasting peace.
The Vatican has consistently supported a two-state solution based on secure and internationally recognized borders.
Fresh attacks reported in southern Lebanon
Israeli forces also carried out attacks in southern Lebanon despite an ongoing ceasefire, according to Lebanese official and local media.
An Israeli airstrike reportedly targeted the outskirts of Al-Qantara, while artillery fire struck Al-Mansouri. In Kafra, in the Bint Jbeil district, an explosive-laden drone reportedly struck a house, damaging the building and injuring two civilians.
Further Israeli military activity was reported around the Ali al-Taher ridge, near Dawhat Kfar Rumman, Deir Siryan and Al-Qantara along Wadi al-Hujair. A tank was also reportedly seen entering the Al-Qantara area.
In Hadatha, Israeli soldiers reportedly opened fire with automatic weapons in a western neighborhood on Sunday, while Israeli military vehicles moved inside the town, Lebanon's National News Agency reported.
The attacks came despite a ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel that took effect on April 17 and was subsequently extended several times. Israeli airstrikes were also reported in Lebanon on Aug. 15.
Lebanon's Health Ministry said 4,346 people have been killed in Israeli attacks since March 2, while the Lebanese government has said more than 1 million people were displaced during the escalation.
Residents in southern Lebanon have said repeated attacks are creating pressure on communities to leave and are punishing areas perceived to support the resistance.
