Trump announces Leavitt’s departure as press secretary

Leavitt, 28, confirmed her departure in a separate statement, describing the challenge of balancing her responsibilities as press secretary with raising two young children.

She said the period had been the most rewarding yet challenging season of her life, noting that she returned to the White House after giving birth to her daughter.

“The truth is since returning to the White House after the birth of my daughter, I have felt in my heart that I cannot be the best mom my two young children deserve while devoting the constant time, energy, and attention required of the White House Press Secretary,” Leavitt said.

Trump says Leavitt will remain a close adviser

Trump said Leavitt would not be leaving his political circle. He said she would become one of his top outside advisers and continue to serve as an influential voice within the Republican Party.

Trump also pointed to the upcoming midterm elections, saying the Republican Party would seek to “defy History” and secure an electoral victory.

Leavitt has been closely involved in Trump’s political operation since 2018. She worked with him during his 2024 presidential campaign before joining his administration at the White House.

Trump credited Leavitt with being a leader who fought for what he described as “Justice, Liberty, and Freedom.”

He also called her one of the best White House press secretaries in the history of the office.
