Zeybek condemns closure of ELTA branches
The decision by the Hellenic Post (ELTA) management to close more than 200 postal branches across Greece as of November 3, 2025, has sparked strong nationwide reactions.
In the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, a total of 11 branches are set to shut down — a move that has drawn sharp criticism from İskeçe MP Hüseyin Zeybek.
Zeybek submitted a parliamentary question concerning the planned closure of the ELTA branches in Yeniköy (Stavroupoli) and İnhanlı (Evlalon), both located within the İskeçe regional unit. He stressed that residents in rural areas are being deprived of essential public services and urged the government to reverse the decision.
Calling the move “unacceptable,” Zeybek warned that it would cause serious difficulties, especially for the elderly population living in rural regions. He pointed out that citizens would have to travel long distances for everyday needs such as collecting pensions, paying bills, and handling postal or parcel services, resulting in significant financial and time burdens.
Zeybek also noted that around 1,500 ELTA employees nationwide risk losing their jobs due to the closures.
In his parliamentary question, he directly asked the government:
“What concrete steps will the government take to immediately reverse the decision to close the ELTA branches in İskeçe and throughout Eastern Macedonia and Thrace?”
