Hüseyin Zeybek, a deputy from the New Left in Xanthi, has made a plea for support for cotton producers in the İskeçe and Rodop regions due to the impacts of drought and a green worm infestation.
Bringing the issue to the parliamentary floor, Zeybek submitted a question to the Ministry of Agriculture. He highlighted that the current price range of €0.50 to €0.55 per kilogram for cotton production is significantly low and does not cover production costs.
Noting a serious decline in cotton production primarily due to drought, Zeybek posed the following questions to the relevant ministry:
- What measures does the ministry plan to take to financially support cotton producers facing severe economic challenges in the İskeçe and Rodop regions?
- Given the climate and other adverse conditions, does the ministry intend to implement the Deminimis financial aid program exceptionally this year to compensate for production losses?
- Is the ministry planning to reduce the cotton harvest base by 30% as requested by DOB to prevent any losses in 2024 cotton production? This would enable all our farmers to deliver their products and benefit from the provided support.
