Yassıköy Municipality protests removal of free toll passage system on Egnatia Odos
The Municipal Council unanimously approved a resolution expressing institutional opposition to what it described as unfair practices implemented by the private operator Nea Egnatia Odos S.A. regarding toll payments, following complaints submitted by local residents.
Through the resolution, the municipality called for the immediate review and withdrawal of the toll payment measure and demanded the continuation of free passage rights at the side toll stations of Egnatia Odos in Thrace for permanent residents holding exemption cards.
The council also requested that the free passage system be restored under fair and realistic conditions on a permanent basis, rather than being limited to a two-plus-one-year period, covering both mainline and side toll stations along the highway.
In addition, the municipality called for meaningful support measures for citizens, professionals, and vulnerable social groups affected by the policy change.
The Yassıköy Municipality urged the Greek government to intervene immediately and resolve the issue before the consequences become irreversible for the local economy and society.
The mayor was authorized to forward the resolution to Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, and the company responsible for managing Egnatia Odos toll operations.
