The Municipality of Yassikoy has held a critical meeting with officials from the Hellenic Agricultural Insurance Organization (ELGA) to address extensive agricultural damage caused by recent severe rainfall in the region.

On Monday, February 2, Yassikoy Mayor Caner Imam met with a delegation from ELGA’s Dedeağaç branch at the municipal offices. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Mayor Theodoros Nikolaidis and Anna Stavropoulou, the newly appointed Director of the ELGA Dedeağaç branch.

Focus on Crop Losses and Damage Assessment

The main agenda of the meeting focused on the significant damage to agricultural land in Yassikoy and surrounding areas, following a period of intense rainfall. Losses suffered by local producers were thoroughly discussed, alongside the damage assessment procedures and the steps required for compensation.

Both sides exchanged views on the ongoing evaluation process and the timeline for official inspections, aiming to ensure that affected farmers receive timely and fair support.

Municipality Pledges Support for Local Farmers

Municipal officials stressed that the Yassikoy Municipality remains in close coordination with ELGA to address farmers’ concerns and mitigate the impact of the damages. Mayor Imam reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to standing by local producers, stating that all necessary initiatives will continue to safeguard their livelihoods.

In an official statement, the municipality underlined the importance of inter-institutional cooperation, emphasizing that protecting agricultural activity and supporting farmers remain top priorities. Authorities confirmed that efforts to secure relief and maintain the resilience of local agricultural production will continue with determination.
