Villagers protest against 5G antenna in İskeçe

Residents of Hemitli and Horozlu villages in İskeçe have voiced strong opposition to a newly installed 5G antenna between the two communities. During a protest held on Sunday, September 21, locals demanded that the antenna not be activated and called for its removal.
Bulustra Mayor Giorgos Tsitiridis visited the site to inform residents about the municipality’s actions. Lawyer Athina Ioakeimidou will take on the case, examining the permit process and, if necessary, pursuing legal measures to block the antenna.
Residents’ main concerns center on the antenna’s proximity to homes, a newly built park in Horozlu, and a primary school. Protesters announced they would launch a petition and stressed their determination to unite and make their voices heard.
Mayor Tsitiridis stated:
“The National Telecommunications Authority in Athens and the İskeçe Urban Planning Department have granted permits. However, no official request or documentation has been submitted to the Municipality of Bulustra. We oppose this. Antennas may be installed, but not within residential areas, right next to people’s homes.”
The mayor described the antenna as a “monstrosity” and pledged that all necessary legal steps would be taken before it becomes operational. He added that the municipality will demand its relocation in line with residents’ wishes.
