Union leader investigated for pro-Palestine banner on Athens Municipal Building
A disciplinary investigation has been launched against a union leader in Athens after a banner in support of Palestine was displayed on the Nea Filadelfia municipal building. The banner was placed at the request of the employees' union.
According to Greek media, a citizen filed a complaint, arguing that the banner was displayed in a "public space." Following the complaint, authorities summoned the union leader, whose name has not been disclosed, to provide a defense.
In a statement, the union defended its action, stating:
“The municipal building is a shared reference point for employees and the public. We do not accept the demand to remove our banner. Messages of support for the Palestinian people are displayed on public buildings worldwide. This is a message of humanitarian solidarity. At a time when the Palestinian people are suffering from war and hunger, calls to remove the banner go against the spirit of solidarity.”
This incident follows a similar case on October 23, when a primary school teacher in Tavros was investigated for helping students create a banner calling for "Freedom for Palestine."
