Seven licences signed for non-public universities to operate in Greece as of 2026-2027
Six foreign institutions and a Cyprus-based one received licences to operate as private institutions in Greece, starting with the 2026-2027 academic year, it was announced on Friday.
The insitutions include the following:
- Georgetown University
- Iowa State University of Science and Technology
- Roger Williams University
- European University of Cyprus
- Université Sorbonne Paris Nord
- University of Essex, and
- University of Derby.
They will operate in Greece as Legal Entities for Higher Education, and the licences were granted to the parent institutions.
The decisions were signed on Friday at the Greek Ministry of Education, Religions and Sports, after approval from the relevant Greek authorities. For institutions headquartered in non-European Union countries, the opinion of the Foreign Affairs Ministry was also sought.
Of the 7 institutions, 6 will operate in Athens and one, the Iowa State University of Science and Technology, in Thessaloniki.
