The Turkish Minority ignored again in the commission report
The Turkish Minority was once again ignored in the report prepared by the Inter-Party Thrace Development Commission while the imposition of “Pomak identity” in the report draws attention.

The final report prepared by the Inter-Party Thrace Development Commission, in which the Turkish minority was once again ignored, was accepted by ND Party votes on Tuesday, 23 November. The imposition of a "Pomak identity" draws attention in the report, which once again confirms the assimilationist perspective of the state towards the Turks of Western Thrace.

In the report published by the Thrace Development Commission, in which Western Thrace Turks are almost ignored, the "Greek-Pomak" propaganda clearly makes itself felt. The fact that the "Greek-Pomak" propaganda, which seriously offended the Western Thrace Turks, was put forward in the report, once again confirmed the assimilationist point of view of the Greek state towards the Western Thrace Turks.

In the report of the Thrace Development Commission, it is seen that the "Greek-Pomak" propaganda, which has been voiced by the Greek state and many politicians, has now been formalized by the state.

The report states that “The Muslim Minority in Thrace consists of three ethnic groups. These; Turkish-born are Pomaks and Roma”.

On the other hand, in the section of the report that talks about the cultural characteristics of the region, it is seen that the "Greek-Pomak" propaganda has gained a new dimension by emphasizing that Xanthi province stands out with the "Pomak Villages". In the same section, while the delicacies of the region are mentioned, the phrase "Pomaks Katchamak" draws attention.

The report also draws attention to the suggestion that "Pomak" and "Romanian" songs should be recorded in order to support the cultural accumulation of the minority.

The final report envisions improving the physical and infrastructure conditions of minority secondary and high schools and madrasas in Xanthi and Rhodope provinces. In the same report, it is suggested that new public primary schools, public secondary schools and high schools should be opened, especially in the mountainous region, and that Turkish should be an elective course in these schools.

In the report, it is stated that a 'Board of Representatives' should be established to determine the mufti and that the board should comply with the European legal framework. In the report, which states that the imams who will take place in the council do not have to be university graduates, the issue of who will take place in the said board and how they will be elected to this board is not clarified.

It is stated that the law regarding foundation administrative committees is not applicable, and if the law is changed, why the current legal regulation is unenforceable should be examined. It is noted that before the foundation elections, the foundation properties must be clearly recorded and the debt and mortgage status of the foundation properties must be determined.

In the report, which is recommended to establish a communication, dialogue and cooperation forum between Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria, it is also emphasized that the development of Thrace and Northern Greece is based on the development of the Balkans and the normalization of relations with Turkey.
