Representatives of agricultural and livestock associations demand a meeting with the President of the Region

Representatives of agricultural and livestock co-operatives and unions operating in the Province of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace have requested a meeting with the President of the Region, Christodoulos Topsidis.

Savvas Argirakis, President of the Agricultural Union of Nestos (Karasu) in Kavala province, told ERT that farmers and livestock owners have requested a meeting with the President of the Region Topsidis to discuss their problems.

Argirakis stated that at the meeting of the Coordination Committee of the Agricultural and Livestock Unions of the Eastern Macedonia Thrace Province on Sunday 14 January, they took the decision to request a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture and the President of the State.

Savvas Argirakis announced that meetings will be held in all agricultural and livestock unions in the province within the week and that they will request an appointment to meet with the president of the province and the ministry to convey the decisions, demands and problems to be taken at the meetings. He said that if the meeting requests are not responded positively, they will determine the "action" plan themselves.

BAN ON EXPORTS OF CATTLE, SHEEP AND GOATS TO SAUDI ARABIA LIFTED

Argirakis said, "We have learnt that the export ban for cattle, sheep and goats, which were banned for export to Saudi Arabia due to encephalopathy disease, has been lifted. We always want our government, state and related units with us in this and every issue. We always need their support."
