Renowned Turkish filmmaker Şerif Gören passes away
Şerif Gören, the acclaimed director behind numerous unforgettable films, has passed away at the age of 80. Born in 1944 in Xanthi, Gören made a lasting impact on Turkish cinema.
On November 22, he suffered a head injury after falling down the stairs at his home. Despite being hospitalized and placed on a ventilator, Gören succumbed to his injuries on December 8, 2024.
Who Was Şerif Gören?
Şerif Gören gained international recognition with "Yol," which won the prestigious Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Born on October 14, 1944, in Xanthi, he moved to Turkey in 1956, where he completed his education at Istanbul Erkek Lisesi.
Over his prolific career, Gören directed numerous iconic films, including "Sen Türkülerini Söyle," "Endişe," "Deprem," "Amerikalı," "Gelincik," "On Kadın," "Nehir," "Tomruk," "Firar," and "Herhangi Bir Kadın."
His last film, "Ay Büyürken Uyuyamam," released in 2011, marked the end of a remarkable career. Gören also wrote the screenplay for this film, solidifying his legacy as a master storyteller in Turkish cinema.
