Population of Greece announced: 10.432.481
The State Statistical Institute announced the results of the digital census in 2021 for the first time. The population of Greece was announced as 10.432.481 people.
According to the 2011 census, the population across the country decreased by 383.805 people (3.5 percent). Women make up 51.3% of the population.
The Greek State Statistical Institute (ELSTAT) announced the results of the 2021 census on Tuesday, July 19 (Today).
Compared to 2011, while the nationwide population decreased by 3,5 percent, women made up 51.3 percent of the total population.
ELSTAT President Thanos Thanopoulos explained that the results are obtained from the digital counting system implemented for the first time in Greece.
ELSTAT officials announced that the population of Greece decreased by 3.5 percent with the digital counting system implemented for the first time in 2021.
According to the results, it was announced that there were 5.357.323 (3.5 percent) women and 5.075.249 men across the country.
While the number of permanent residents in Athens was announced as 3.792.469, it was stated that the population of Athens center decreased by 35.965 people in the last ten years.
While it was announced that there were 1.792.069 people in the Central Macedonia region (90.039 fewer according to the 2011 census), the region with the least population was the North Aegean region with a total of 194.136 people.
While 12 out of 13 regions in Greece showed a decrease in population, only the South Aegean Region increased. While the total population in the South Aegean was 309.000 in 2011, it was announced that the total population was 324.000 in the 2021 census.
