The unemployment rate in Greece stood at 9% in March this year, compared to a downwardly revised 9.4% in March 2025 and an upwardly revised 8.6% in February 2026, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) said on Wednesday.

The unemployment rate in Greece stood at 9% in March this year, compared to a downwardly revised 9.4% in March 2025 and an upwardly revised 8.6% in February 2026, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) said on Wednesday.

The number of unemployed people amounted to 436,057, marking a decrease of 10,632 persons compared to March 2025 (2.4%) and an increase of 19,021 persons compared to February 2026 (4.6%).

Among women, the unemployment rate rose to 11.5% from 11.7% in March last year, while among men it fell to 6.9% from 7.5%.

By age group, the unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group stood at 21% compared to 21.1% in March 2025, and in the 25-74 age group at 8.3% compared to 8.8%.

According to the Labour Force Survey of ELSTAT, the number of employed persons reached 4,412,383, marking an increase of 117,047 compared to March 2025 (2.7%) and an increase of 3,645 compared to February 2026 (0.1%).

Meanwhile, persons under the age of 75 who are not part of the labor force - i.e., those who are neither working nor seeking employment - amounted to 2,876,809, recording a decrease of 141,058 compared to March 2025 (4.7%) and a decrease of 26,947 compared to February 2026 (0.9%).
