Over 460kg of illicit tobacco seized in İskeçe (Xanthi)
Police in İskeçe (Xanthi) arrested a local man on Wednesday afternoon for possession of a large quantity of untaxed tobacco, in violation of Greece’s National Customs Code.
Following a targeted investigation, officers from the İskeçe (Xanthi) Crime Suppression Unit searched the suspect’s residence in a local settlement and discovered a total of 462.6 kilograms of illicit tobacco products.
Specifically, authorities seized nine plastic packages containing 53.88 kilograms of processed tobacco, along with 37 bags holding 408.75 kilograms of raw tobacco leaves.
According to police, no taxes or duties had been paid on the products ERT reported.
Officers also confiscated a precision electronic scale, a mixing machine, and a cutting device believed to have been used in the processing of the tobacco.
The suspect was taken into custody and is expected to appear before the İskeçe (Xanthi) Prosecutor’s Office.
The investigation is ongoing, led by the İskeçe (Xanthi) Crime Suppression Unit.
