MP Zeybek issues parliamentary question on budget cuts at Dimetoka General Hospital

On February 13, 2025, four MPs from Nea Aristera (New Left), led by Hüseyin Zeybek, MP for İskeçe, submitted a parliamentary question regarding the Greek government’s budget cuts at Dimetoka General Hospital. Meropi Tzoufi, the party’s Health Policy Coordinator, co-signed the question.

The MPs strongly criticized the government’s austerity measures in the public healthcare system, arguing that these cuts serve private interests such as large clinic owners and healthcare investment funds. According to their statement, the hospital’s budget for 2025 has been reduced by €261,000 compared to the previous year, leading to spending restrictions even in surgical procedures.

They praised doctors and nurses as “heroes” for keeping the National Health System (ESY) functioning despite these financial constraints. The MPs addressed the following questions to the responsible minister:

Why was the budget for Didymoteicho General Hospital reduced by €261,000 for 2025?
Does the government prioritize staffing, strengthening, and upgrading this crucial hospital in the Evros region?
The issue raises broader concerns about public healthcare funding and the government's long-term strategy for hospitals in remote areas like northern Greece.
