MP Zaybek criticizes Assoc.Minister of Helth Mrs.Gaga

"The Government once again turns a deaf ear to the degradation of Public Health in Xanthi" notes a press release of the Xanthi Prefectural SYRIZA, commenting on the response of the Minister of Health to the MP's report on the issues of the Xanthi Hospital.

The announcement in detail is as follows:

Responding to the report dated 243/25-10-2022 that I submitted to the Parliament regarding the proposals of ADEDY Xanthi about the improvement of Public Health in Xanthi, Assoc. Minister of Health Mrs. Gaga proved once again that the Government does not share the dimension of the Public Health problem in our county. 

Specifically:

1. Regarding the operation of the ICU of the Xanthi General Hospital the Ministry admits that the inability to operate the ICU is due to the lack of medical staff, where in fact there is only one doctor available charged to the ICU, hence the impossibility of a safe on-call program.

As he mentions, today, the announcement to fill a position is in progress Director of the ICU, however, the problem is still not resolved as of now there is not the minimum staff for the safe operation of the ICU.  Consequently, even equipping the Hospital with six new intensive care beds becomes irrelevant.

2. With reference to the announcements of new medical staff positions the Ministry reports that a large number of positions have been approved for the General Hospital of Xanthi, in order to be announced, referring to the document numbered 16896/9.11.2022 of the General Hospital of Xanthi, which however is NOT attached. 

However, we should not ignore the fact that no matter how many positions are advertised, there is always the risk of them being barren, as long as no further incentives are given.

3. Regarding the ambulance in Xanthi the Ministry points out that the dynamics of the ambulance allows two (2) ambulances to operate in each shift, admits, however, that very often the shifts are covered by the Alexandroupolis sector. As far as secondary transports are concerned, the responsibility lies with the Hospitals and the EKAB to operate in an auxiliary manner. 

Finally, the Ministry puts the burden of its inadequacy on the three Health Centers in the Prefecture of Xanthi, such as the Echinos Health Center, the Avdira Health Center and the Stavroupoli Health Center and the Xanthi General Hospital, so that they can ensure the recruitment of the necessary staff (drivers – ambulance crews) for the processing of secondary receipts and in parallel with the assistance of EKAV staff (Xanthi Sector) to deal with emergencies, once again avoiding to answer on the merits.

From the above, it appears once again that the Ministry of Health refusesto even realize the real problems of Public Health in our Prefecture and of course, to take the necessary initiatives to solve them. With all the power that the Parliamentary Audit gives us, we submitted a new report with the proposals of the most competent Medical Association for the staffing of the Xanthi General Hospital, to which the Ministry will be asked to respond on the matter and not by presenting a distorted image that serves it.

Following this, I point out once again that SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance supports every initiative to upgrade and protect Public Health, as well as the protest gatherings against the downgrading of the Xanthi General Hospital.

We are not going to allow the further deterioration of Public Health in Xanthi! 

We will not let the Government turn our Hospital into a Health Center, nor will we let the Government implement the Prime Minister's plan for Regional Hospitals! 

The citizens of Xanthi will give the message of the overthrow of this Government that wants to alter every manifestation of the social state and the rule of law!
