MP Haris Mamoulakis resigns from parliament
Haris Mamoulakis has resigned as a member of the Greek parliament representing Heraklion, announcing his decision in a social media post on Monday.
“One chapter has closed,” Mamoulakis wrote, while stressing that his departure from parliament would not mark the end of his political involvement.
He said his commitment to his home region and its people remained unchanged, reaffirming his belief in democracy and the ethical and political responsibilities of public life.
Thanks supporters and pledges continued commitment
In his statement, Mamoulakis thanked local residents for their trust and support over the years, acknowledging the challenges ahead and the responsibilities facing the country.
He said he would continue with consistency, determination and a sense of responsibility, guided by what he described as the future of his region and Greece.
Elected with Syriza in 2023
Mamoulakis was elected to parliament in the June 2023 general election on the Syriza-Progressive Alliance ticket. He became an independent MP on July 15, 2026, approximately three months before announcing his resignation.
In the Heraklion constituency, where he had been the leading candidate on Syriza’s ballot, the next names in the reported order were Sokratis Vardakis, Nikolaos Igoumenidis and Vasileios Smpokos.
His resignation opens the way for the next steps in filling the parliamentary seat, in accordance with the applicable electoral procedures.
