MP Özgür Ferhat: “Our schools are our private domain”
Özgür Ferhat, a Member of Parliament from the New Left Party for the Rhodope region, visited the village of Karacaoğlan in the Kozlukebir Municipality on Monday, January 5, to inspect the site of the recent attack on the Karacaoğlan Turkish Minority Primary School.
During his visit, MP Ferhat gathered information about the incident from representatives of elected local institutions and organizations, as well as from village residents.
In a statement shared on social media following the visit, Ferhat underlined the historical, cultural, and social significance of minority schools, stressing that their material and moral ownership belongs to the minority community itself. He said that the vandalization of the Karacaoğlan Minority Primary School had caused deep sorrow and concern.
Ferhat emphasized that even though the school was closed due to a lack of students, its status and identity remain unchanged. He stated that during periods when such schools remain closed, they should be restored to the minority community, with administrative and usage rights returned to their rightful owners.
Concluding his remarks, Ferhat affirmed that all necessary official and institutional initiatives would continue to ensure the protection of minority schools and the safeguarding of the rights of the minority community.
