MP Hüseyin Zeybek announces he will continue as an independent, citing political disagreement
İskeçe Independent MP Hüseyin Zeybek has announced his resignation from the New Left party and confirmed that he will continue his political career as an independent lawmaker, outlining the reasons for his decision in a written statement released to the public.
Zeybek stated that throughout his political career, his primary focus has been to defend the interests of the people of İskeçe and citizens more broadly. He explained that his involvement in the founding of the New Left two years ago was driven by the aim of sustaining hope for society and left-wing politics.
He noted that during the formation period of the party, he and others sought to uphold principled positions against what they described as the degradation and loss of credibility in politics. Over the past years, he said, he has attempted to contribute policy proposals and structured work based on evidence in response to societal challenges.
Zeybek sharply criticized the government of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, arguing that the country is being governed through networks of interests and a lack of transparency. He claimed that this governance model has contributed to a severe cost-of-living crisis, job insecurity, and a weakening of the rule of law.
He further stated that the political strategy of the New Left leadership has not been sufficient under current conditions to address these challenges effectively, and emphasized the need to prevent Mitsotakis from securing a third term in office.
In his statement, Zeybek also referred to international developments, stressing the importance of strengthening peace efforts and opposing Israeli policies toward the Palestinian people.
Calling for broader cooperation among progressive forces, Zeybek confirmed that he will continue his political struggle as an independent MP representing İskeçe.
“I commit to continuing my struggle and work as an Independent MP for İskeçe with all my strength toward this goal,” he said.
