Mitsotakis: Unemployment in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace has “significantly decreased”
According to Mitsotakis, unemployment in the region has fallen from around 17% in 2019 to 9.4% today, with approximately 14,300 more people employed compared to previous years. He described the development as a clear indication that regional growth is translating into tangible opportunities for citizens.
New Employment Programs Announced
The Prime Minister also pointed to new targeted measures introduced by the Ministry of Labor to further boost employment in the region. These include:
- A subsidized employment program creating 2,000 new jobs
- A work experience initiative for 250 unemployed individuals in the livestock sector
These initiatives aim to strengthen local economies and address long-standing employment challenges in northern Greece.
Investment in Education and Regional Development
Mitsotakis also confirmed the establishment of a new music school in Orestiada, utilizing property allocated by the Public Employment Service (DYPA). The project is expected to serve as a new educational and cultural hub for the area.
Emphasizing the government’s broader strategy, Mitsotakis stated that supporting Thrace and the Greek periphery is not merely a slogan but a step-by-step implementation of concrete policies and projects.
